Men of Color in Education Leadership — WordPress Website Design for a US Education Leadership Nonprofit

A purpose-driven WordPress website for a national US nonprofit dedicated to recruiting, retaining, and advancing men of color in educational leadership, built to drive membership, showcase programs and attract institutional partners.

Timeline: 1-month project, Ongoing support

Men of Color in Education Leadership (MCEL) is a US-based national nonprofit addressing a critical equity gap in American education: only 3% of educators are men of color, and those who enter the profession leave at disproportionately high rates. MCEL partners with school systems and districts to design inclusive environments that support diverse leadership, running four core programs: National Convening, National Leadership Institute, Leaders Developing Leaders, and a Resilient, Representative Leadership (RRL) Toolkit, a free resource for school leaders at all levels. The organization has delivered over 15,000 hours of leadership development, supported 350+ promotions to school and district leadership roles, and reached 4,000 leaders leading authentically.

Elite IT Solutions designed and built a multi-page WordPress website that presents MCEL’s mission with authority, routes institutional partners, individual members, and general supporters to their appropriate entry point, and hosts the free RRL Toolkit as a lead generation and community-building resource.

Client/Context

MCEL – Men of Color in Education Leadership is a US national education nonprofit supporting male educators of color at all levels of the school system.

An organization addressing a structural equity issue in the US education system needed a website that could reach multiple audiences simultaneously: individual educators of color seeking community and development, school districts seeking to build inclusive leadership pipelines, and donors or supporters who wanted to contribute to the mission.

Problem Statement

Without a professionally structured website that communicated MCEL’s reach, program depth, and data-backed impact, the organization was unable to present itself with the authority needed to attract institutional district partnerships and major donors at scale.

Key Pain Points

  • Multiple stakeholder types, individual male educators of color, school district administrators, and general supporters, each needed a distinct narrative and conversion pathway within the same site
  • The organisation’s impact, 15,000 hours of development, 350 promotions, 4,000 leaders reached, needed to be presented as a headline credibility statement, not buried in body copy
  • The free RRL Toolkit was a powerful audience-building tool that needed its own page and prominent placement to drive downloads and establish MCEL as the leading thought resource in its field

We built a multi-page WordPress website that opens with the organization’s defining statistic: “Only 3% of educators are men of color.” This frames the urgency immediately, followed by MCEL’s solution statement: partnering with leaders and systems to design inclusive environments.

Three entry-point blocks on the homepage route different visitor types: support for young men of color, resources for school systems wanting to drive change, and ways for allies to support the movement. A Free Resource section spotlights the RRL Toolkit with a dedicated download link. An impact statistics block, 15,000 hours, 350 promotions, 4,000 leaders are presented with large numerical callouts that establish scale and credibility at a glance. Program pages for National Convening, National Leadership Institute, Leaders Developing Leaders, and the RRL Toolkit each provide depth for institutional researchers. Chapter pages for current districts (Waukegan Public Schools, IL; Winston-Salem/Forsythe County; Kansas City Metro) demonstrate geographic reach. A Membership Application, Member Log-In, and Donate pathway are all accessible from the main navigation.

MCEL now has a website that positions the organization with the authority and structural clarity that institutional partnerships demand. The three-audience homepage structure ensures every visitor finds their relevant entry point quickly. The impact statistics give funders and district administrators the credibility evidence they need, and the free RRL Toolkit serves as a continuous lead generation and community-building tool that extends MCEL’s reach beyond its formal membership.
