Patterson Place Vocational Nonprofit WordPress Project

A Huntsville faith based vocational community for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities gains a dignified WordPress website that highlights its programme, citizens, sponsors, and shop while welcoming donors, volunteers, and families.

Timeline: 2-week project

Patterson Place needed a WordPress website that honoured the dignity and creative output of the adults it serves, referred to within the organisation as Citizens, while also running the practical needs of a growing nonprofit including donations, programme enrolment enquiries, sponsor recognition, events, and an online shop for products created by Citizens. The new site presents the vocational community model, the 1 to 6 staff to Citizen ratio, and the Monday through Thursday programme schedule with full and part time options, alongside a Sunflower Sponsors recognition section and an Amazon wishlist for ongoing material support. The design balances warmth, faith, and professional credibility for adult parents and donors evaluating the organisation.

Client:

Patterson Place is a 501(c)(3) God centered vocational community in Huntsville, Alabama, serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities through structured, hands on vocational training, faith based programming, a 1 to 6 staff to participant support ratio, and small business style enterprises that produce real, marketable goods sold through the in house shop.

Context:

Patterson Place was operating as a faith centred vocational community in Huntsville, Alabama with a powerful philosophy that adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities deserve meaningful work, dignity, and belonging, but was doing so in a category where most adult disability service websites default to clinical, deficit framed language and templates that fail to communicate the joy, creativity, and contribution of the people they serve.

Problem Statement:

The organisation lacked a WordPress website that could simultaneously elevate Citizens through dignified imagery and language, communicate the vocational programme structure to families evaluating placement, recognise Sunflower Sponsors who fund the work, run an online shop for Citizen made products, and accept donations, all while reflecting the God centred mission at the heart of the community.

Pain Points:

  • Families researching vocational and life skills programs for adults with intellectual disabilities faced a confusing landscape of regional providers without clear visibility into program structure, daily activities, and admission pathways.
  • The website needed to communicate the warmth and dignity of the community while also supporting the operational realities of family enquiries, admissions information, and volunteer engagement.
  • Donors and partners wanted to understand the impact of the program in tangible qualitative terms before committing financial support to a community based nonprofit.

Elite IT Solutions worked on a WordPress website organised around the Citizens, the programme, the shop, sponsors, events, team, and donations, with imagery and language that consistently leads with capability and contribution rather than limitation. The site supports a full ecommerce flow for Citizen made products, an Amazon wishlist link for ongoing in kind support, and a 501(c)(3) compliant donation flow with EIN displayed for transparency.

Patterson Place now has a WordPress website that honours the dignity and contribution of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, gives families a clear path to enquire about placement, recognises Sunflower Sponsors, supports product sales, and welcomes new donors and volunteers into the mission.
