For The Love Of Lilly Lou Rare Disease Nonprofit Portfolio

An Alabama family led nonprofit fighting Pelizaeus Merzbacher Like Disease gains a hopeful, research focused WordPress website that funds research, supports affected families, and rallies a community of donors and corporate supporters around a cure.

Timeline: 1-month project

For The Love Of Lilly Lou needed a WordPress website that would carry the personal weight of a family’s journey with a rare and progressive genetic disease while organising the operational needs of a research focused nonprofit. The new site explains Pelizaeus Merzbacher Like Disease in plain language, links to authoritative research sources including NIH and the PMD Foundation, recognises the long roster of corporate and community donors across north Alabama, and surfaces a WHNT featured family story. A clear donation pathway via Venmo and a Vinyl Hub merchandise store sit alongside event listings and family support content.

Client:

For The Love Of Lilly Lou is a Huntsville, Alabama based 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by the family of a child diagnosed with Pelizaeus Merzbacher Like Disease, dedicated to funding genetic and medical research into PMLD and related leukodystrophies, supporting affected families, raising disease awareness, and partnering with research institutions including the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Context:

For The Love Of Lilly Lou was founded in the most difficult of circumstances, by the family of a child diagnosed with a rare progressive genetic disease for which there is no current cure, and was operating with an urgent mission to fund research and support other families, but was doing so without a WordPress website that could communicate the complexity of PMLD in plain language, organise the meaningful list of corporate and community donors, and turn a family’s deeply personal story into a sustainable movement.

Problem Statement:

The organisation lacked a digital home that could carry both the medical credibility required to engage research partners such as the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the emotional resonance required to move first time visitors to donate, sponsor a fundraiser, or share the cause across north Alabama and beyond.Pain Points:

  • Pain Point 1.
Visitors discovering a family founded memorial nonprofit online needed to immediately understand the personal story behind the mission before being invited to support the cause.
  • Pain Point 2.
The website needed to balance emotional storytelling with the operational clarity required to direct donations, event registrations, and family support requests through the right channels.
  • Pain Point 3.
Trust signals around fund use and impact needed to be surfaced clearly enough for donors evaluating a small family run charity against larger institutional alternatives.

Elite IT Solutions built a WordPress website that pairs a clearly explained What Is PMLD section with a roster of research authority links, a Heart Behind Lilly Lou story page, an extensive donors and supporters wall recognising local Alabama businesses, a WHNT Hoover’s Heroes feature placement, and a hopeful gallery. Donations flow through Venmo, while a partner Vinyl Hub store handles branded merchandise sales. The result is a credible, hope forward digital foundation for a rare disease cause.

For The Love Of Lilly Lou now has a WordPress website that turns a deeply personal family journey into a coordinated research, awareness, and family support effort, recognises the community of donors who fund the work, and gives every visitor a clear path to donate, share the cause, or learn more about PMLD.
