Jen de Oliveira — Author-Illustrator Website Design for a Published Children’s Graphic Novelist and Educator

A clean, creative WordPress website for a California-based children’s book author-illustrator, built to showcase published graphic novels, a webcomic series, printables, school visit information, and an ongoing newsletter.

Jen de Oliveira is a California-based author and cartoonist whose debut graphic novel Reggie: Kid Penguin earned a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard selection and appeared on the American Library Association’s 2023 Best Graphic Novels for Children list and the CBC’s 2024 Children’s Favorites. She is currently developing two new graphic novel series, Pip & Pals (2026) and Nummi Chums (2028) and co-founded Sunday Haha, a free weekly comics publication. A former elementary school teacher, she also offers school visits and is represented by a literary agent at Aevitas Creative Management.

Elite IT Solutions designed and built a multi-page WordPress website that presents Jen’s full creative platform: published books, an ongoing webcomic series, downloadable printables, video content, school visit information, and a newsletter sign-up. The site serves teachers, librarians, parent buyers, and publishing industry contacts as well as young fans of her work.

Client/Context

Jen de Oliveira is a published children’s graphic novelist, former teacher, and author-illustrator based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

With a growing body of published work, an ongoing webcomic, school visit programming, and two forthcoming graphic novel series, Jen needed an author platform that could grow with her career and serve multiple audience types, from librarians and teachers evaluating school visit bookings to children browsing her comics and printables.

Problem Statement

Without a multi-section author website that presented all her creative outputs in one accessible platform, Jen’s work was scattered across separate channels, making it difficult for educators, librarians and fans to find everything she offered and engage with her brand holistically.

Key Pain Points

  • Multiple creative outputs, published books, a webcomic, printables, and video content, each required their own dedicated page to serve distinct audience intents (buying, reading, downloading, watching).
  • School visit enquiries from teachers and librarians needed a dedicated page presenting Jen’s educator background, visit format, and booking process in a format familiar to school procurement
  • The forthcoming graphic novel series (2026 and 2028) needed to be announced on the site in a way that built anticipation without overshadowing current published work

We built a multi-page WordPress website with a homepage that leads with a full-width banner and four content-type entry points: Books, Comics, Printables, and Videos, each represented by a distinct visual tile that routes visitors immediately to their area of interest.

The Books page presents Reggie: Kid Penguin with its award credentials and will host upcoming series when they publish. The webcomic page hosts the ongoing comics series for regular returning readers. Printables and videos serve educators and classroom users with downloadable resources and content. The School Visits page presents Jen’s offer to educators with her former-teacher background as a key credibility signal. The About page tells Jen’s full story, from elementary teaching to published author, alongside a link to her literary agent’s portfolio. A newsletter sign-up appears throughout the site to grow a direct fan and educator contact list.

Jen de Oliveira now has a professional author-illustrator platform that serves every audience type she works with. Teachers and librarians can find the school visit page immediately. Young fans can read the webcomic or download printables. Industry contacts, agents, publishers, and press can access her bio, portfolio link, and full publication record. The site is built to scale with her career as Pip & Pals and Nummi Chums publish in 2026 and 2028.
